Questions people ask
Where can I buy home gym equipment in Utah?
Utah Home Fitness runs showrooms in Salt Lake City (1336 Foothill Dr) and Sandy (10875 State St), checked on their store pages on October 29, 2026. Scheels in Sandy is a large sporting goods store. Used gear moves fast on KSL Classifieds, Facebook Marketplace and the Utah Craigslist sites, and the University of Utah and Utah State University both sell surplus property to the public.
What should I buy first for a garage gym?
A rack or squat stand, a 20 kg barbell, bumper plates with collars, a flat bench and 3/4 inch rubber stall mats. That covers squats, presses, deadlifts and rows. Add adjustable dumbbells, then cardio, once you know you will use the space.
Is used gym equipment worth buying in Utah?
Often, for steel and iron: racks, plates, dumbbells and benches have few parts to fail. Inspect welds, holes and pins, bring a bar to test fit, and pay only after you have seen it. Treadmills and other motorized machines carry more risk because motors and belts wear out.
What flooring do I need for a home gym?
For barbell work, 3/4 inch rubber stall mats. Greatmats lists the standard mat as 4 x 6 feet and about 100 pounds, so they stay put without glue. Foam tiles are fine for bodyweight and light dumbbells, not for dropping a bar.
How tall does my ceiling need to be for a power rack?
Measure first. Racks vary widely: Titan lists its T-3 squat stand at 73.5 inches (short) and 92.5 inches (tall). Leave room above for pull-ups and overhead presses, or press seated or outside the rack.
